HoldCo Asset Management and affiliates were launched in July 2011 with a focus on opportunistically but at the same time patiently investing in complex and often misunderstood situations in order to generate strong risk-adjusted returns. HoldCo has approximately $900 million of assets under management and long-duration capital with a commensurate time horizon with respect to its investments. HoldCo focuses on niche, inefficient asset classes or markets that provide a significant margin of safety and substantial upside. Investments may be found within a diverse range of asset classes such as stressed corporate debt (loans or bonds), distressed debt, orphan or less followed listed equity instruments (including preferred stock), liquidations, structured credit, convertible bonds (including “busted” converts), LP secondaries, or private equity (including minority positions). The firm pursues a value-based investing philosophy consistent with a bottoms-up / “deep dive” approach to understanding financial / accounting aspects of an investment as well as legal and process-driven components (such as indentures, corporate charters, bankruptcies, divestitures, spin-offs, etc). From time to time activism is employed and/or control positions (either through debt or equity) are acquired.
